GUJRANWALA, Sept 19: A polio case was detected in Ladheywala Warraich village when a six-month-old infant was tested positive while a health department mobile team continued on Friday administering anti-polio vaccine to all children of the village up to five years of age.
District Health Officer Dr Ryasat Ali Nara said that Zohaib Hasan belonged to a gypsy’s family which migrated from Sahiwal and settled down in the outskirts of village some three months ago.
Though the health department had administered polio drops to all children three months ago, a team examined the infant few days back and some indications suggested that the boy was infected with the polio virus.
He said that Zohaib’s blood samples and initial medical reports were sent to a laboratory in Islamabad which confirmed that the boy was suffering from polio.
He said that a health team had been deployed in the village and ordered to administer anti-polio vaccine drops to all the children below five on emergency basis.
TOLL: The death toll of Kamoke strawboard factory inferno incident rose to eight when an injured worker succumbed to his burns on Friday.
Seven workers of the strawboard factory on Abdul Waqeel Khan Road were killed when a boiler of the factory exploded on Thursday morning and roof of the factory caved in.
Ghulam was among dozen of injured workers who were taken to Mayo Hospital in Lahore where he expired on Friday. Later, his body was handed over to his family for burial.
STRIKE: Members of the stamp vendors association observed a strike at the district and all tehsil courts complexes on Friday.
The stamp vendors held a protest camp at the district court complex here and at Kamoke, Nowshera Virka and Wazirabad tehsil courts complexes and stopped selling stamp papers and revenue tickets.
