MITHI, May 8: The World Education Week is being observed here under the aegis of NGO Tharparkar Rural Development Programme, in collaboration with Action Aid.

Addressing a seminar, speakers expressed their concern over the deteriorating standard of education and low literacy rate in the country, particularly in Thar. They emphasized the need to device a comprehensive education policy and get it implemented to ensure imparting of quality education.

Dr Sonomal Khangarani, Executive Director TRDP, said that it is the responsibility of parents to provide education to their wards.

Professor Hot Chand, principal Diplo College, said that Tharparkar is a backward district, lacking in school buildings, libraries, teaching staff and other accessories. Dr Ashok Kumar Bakhtani, Ms Tabassum, Dr Fateh Muhammad Qureshi and Ashok Kirami also spoke on the occasion.
