GUJRANWALA, Sept 15: An additional superintendent and the deputy superintendent (jail) were engaged in free for all over the issue of administrative control here on Monday.

Reports said that deputy superintendent Yasir Khan found occupying his office by additional superintendent Imtiaz Bhalli after he returned from Lahore.

He asked the additional superintendent to vacate his office, but he refused. Both of them later engaged in a physical fight after exchanging harsh words.

Other jail officers intervened and got them separated. Inspector General (Prison) Mian Farooq Nazir told Dawn that both officials were suspended from their service.

He said the decision to suspend the officials was taken in the light of an inquiry report submitted to him by Additional IG (Prisons) Javed Latif.

It is learnt that the deputy superintendent, who was injured by the additional superintendent with a paper weight, was admitted to the central jail hospital where his condition was stated to be stable.
