KARACHI, Sept 13: Three-year-old bay filly Moomal is fancied to strike again and make it two on the trot should she land the feature event in the Gymkhana race meeting at the Karachi Racecourse on Sunday.
The filly from the stables of KRC administrator, Haji Khuda Bux Rajar, had edged Manan Prince by a distance on Sept 6 to claim The Nishan-e-Haider cup.
Her form suggests that she can overcome the opposition yet again in the six furlongs feature event which is the seventh and last race on card.
Those who come in reckoning to challenge her authority are Sahibzadi, Manan Prince and Dragon Heart.
A close contest between colt Ace Of Base and filly Black Velvet is on card in the sixth race which is also the supporting event. Though both carry equal weight the former has the advantage of winning the six furlongs race recently under Tariq Baran after Black Velvet was injured at the starting gate.
The two are likely to be chased by Blind Date.
Three-year-old bay filly Dilruba who stormed to a facile six lengths’ victory in the last run is our fancy in the fifth race where 12 horses, barring withdrawls, will face the starter.
Her likely challengers are Play Boy, Moon Dazzler and John Player.
Eight-year-old bay mare Princess Rozi may make amends by getting the better of her rivals in the fourth race. To accomplish the task she should have to overcome at least Chun Chun Chun and Trust Again. Filly Sugar is also there and waiting to bounce upon any moment.
Victory Prince who was withdrawn in the last race is fancied to land the opener by getting the better of Princess and Native Queen. The race is confined to unknown pedigree horses.
Silver City and Mushki are poised to reign supreme in the remaining two races. However, Dr Dre and Guess Its Me may create an upset in their respective races.
Meanwhile, in a surprise development, a prominent owner has withdrawn all of his horses at the eleventh hour after acceptance.
The first race gets into action at 1.00pm.
