LAHORE, Sept 13: The Punjab Higher Education Department has announced the closure of Government College for Boys, Gulberg, on Monday (tomorrow) following a heightened confrontation between the college principal and faculty members.

The confrontation reached its climax when the principal broke open locks of some teachers’ rooms. Later the teachers reached the Punjab Civil Secretariat to lodge their protest with the higher education secretary.

As the secretary was not available, the protesting teachers met the additional chief secretary and expressed their grievances.

It is learnt that DPI (colleges) Asghar Nadeem Syed also held a meeting with the teachers on behalf of the education department and got information about the situation in the college. He has sent his report to the higher education secretary.

It is also learnt that Qazi Ayub, who is holding dual charge of the higher education department, will hold a meeting with college principal Abdul Razzaq Cheema and faculty on Monday. — Staff Reporter
