Breach in canal

KASUR, Sept 12: Sugarcane and corn crops on hundreds of acres of land were inundated after a 35-feet breach developed in lower canal’s main branch near Ganddianpur village in Changa Manga on Friday. However, no casualty was reported due to the police’s immediate response to the disaster.

A 13-feet breach developed in the canal at about 4:30am on Friday on which DPO Rao Abdul Karim along with a heavy contingent of police reached the spot.

Later, police jawans and locals filled the 35-foot breach by 11am. The irrigation officials also repaired the damaged bank by the evening.—Correspondent
