TOBA TEK SINGH, Sept 12: In a weird exercise of authority, the city police on Thursday registered a case against a rickshaw driver for kidnapping an assistant sub-inspector (ASI) from city’s busiest Clock Tower Chowk and later abandoning him in a suburban village.

According to FIR No 456/08 under Section 365-B of the Pakistan Penal Code, accused Nadeem was driving a motorcycle-rickshaw which did not have a number plate fixed.

ASI Ghulam Abbas signalled the driver to stop and asked him to produce documents of his three-wheeler, but he refused.

The ASI boarded Nadeem’s rickshaw and told him to move towards the police station, but Nadeem instead took Abbas to Chak 325-JB, Dullam, three kilometres away on Toba-Jhang Road.

During the journey, the rickshaw also travelled on a kilometre-long shaky part of road which is under-construction.

The FIR said Nadeem took the ASI to a cattle-yard owned by Abbas Jat and abandoned him. Later, the ASI informed the police on which a raiding team rescued him from the cattle-yard.

According to the police, the accused had fled and raids were being conducted to arrest him.
