Shahzaib stars in Karachi Blues’ win

KARACHI, Sept 10: Shahzaib Hasan excelled with bat and ball to lead Karachi Blues to an impressive eight-wicket victory over Lahore Shalimar in PCB Inter-region Under-19 one-day cricket tournament at the PCB Academy Ground on Wednesday.

Shahzaib first claimed three wickets for 34 with his off-spin in 9.1 overs and later slammed a brilliant 54 off 33 balls, studded with fours sixes and five fours. Earlier, sent in to bat first, Lahore Shalimar recovered after a shaky 67-5 in 16 overs to post 209 all out in 49.1 overs. Mubashir Ijaz hit three fours and a six in his 91-ball 56 and Zeeshan Malik made 49 off 91 deliveries. Mubashir and Zeeshan put on 114 runs for the sixth wicket.

In reply, Karachi Blues reached target in 38.2 overs for the loss of just two wickets with Ammar Hasan and Abdul Jabbar sharing an unbroken third-wicket partnership of 107 runs. Ammar hit five fours in his undefeated 50 off 73 balls and Jabbar hoisted three sixes and hit two fours in his 47 not out. Talha Shabbir blasted eight boundaries and a six in his 42-ball knock of 45.
