LAHORE, Sept 10: Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has said that a modern DNA lab will be set up in the city.

He was addressing a meeting held here on Wednesday to review the establishment of a DNA lab in the province, says a handout.

He said modern training would be imparted to police officials in various fields, including preservation of the crime scene. He said the lab would be completed within three months.

He also constituted a special committee, under the supervision of the chief secretary, for early completion and provision of all necessary facilities in the lab.

The meeting was also attended by adviser to CM Jehanzeb Burki, the chief secretary, the home secretary, the health secretary, the IG and the chief chemical examiner.

The chief minister said since the use of modern technology for curbing crimes was the need of the hour, similar labs would be established at divisional level later on.

He directed the chief secretary to immediately hand over the under-construction building of the office of chemical examiner to the home secretary for establishment of the lab.

Lab consultant Dr Tahir Ashraf would supervise the designing and purchase of equipment.

The chief minister said after recruitment of technical staff of the lab, arrangements would be made for their training abroad. He also issued instructions to the communication and works secretary for necessary alteration in the construction plan in accordance with the needs of the lab.
