TOBA TEK SINGH, Sept 10: Kamalia government girls college students staged a demonstration on Wednesday to protest refusal of Punjab University authorities to register them for the upcoming BA examination.
Talking to newsmen, representatives of protesting girls said about 200 students got admission to the college two years back and studied in regular BA classes.
They deplored that now the PU had refused to register these students for the BA examination giving the reason that college had been authorised to admit only 50 students, but the management admitted about 200.
They demanded the governor and the chief minister should intervene in the matter to save their career by allowing their registration for the examination as the students had no fault of their own.
Principal Ms Shafqat Anwaar claimed she had repeatedly written to the university for increasing the number of seats in the college, but nothing had so far been done in this regard.
DEMO: Fertilizer dealers staged a demonstration on Wednesday at Pirmahal alleging they were being forced to sell the fertilizer bags to only those farmers who are ‘recommended’ by revenue officials.
According to them, 300 fertilizer bags were received from factory on Wednesday each by two dealers Adnan and Azhar. When the dealers started selling the bags, a naib tehsildar, Munir Ahmad, stopped them and asked them to sell fertilizer only to the farmers recommended by him.
The dealers closed their outlets and staged a demonstration to protest the intervention of revenue official in their business. They also met with DCO Muhammad Ashraf to apprise him of the situation.
