HYDERABAD, Sept 10: A 60-year-old man accused police of subjecting him to severe torture and appealed to authorities to order a judicial inquiry and appoint a conscientious officer belonging to Karachi to investigate the case.

Agha Mehboob Ahmed of Mumtaz Colony said at a news conference that on the night of Aug 6, some policemen forced into his house, ransacked it and seized one digital camera, two mobile sets, two watches, passport, an arm license and a 9MM pistol.

He said that police told him that he was a suspect in the biggest bank robbery of the city. He was taken to CIA centre and tortured by inspector Qamaruzzaman and other policemen for six days, he added.

Agha Ahmed, who claimed to have remained the president of PPP Taif, Saudi Arabia during his stay there from 1981 to 1997, said that he was not allowed to sleep for six nights and later his two sons were also brought to the centre policemen tortured his younger son Adil.

Police also raided the house of his daughter and when they succeeded in laying hands on the real culprits, he was challaned in two false cases of 13-D arm license and possession of 200 grams of charas.

He said that he was remanded in jail custody for 24 days and was finally released on bail. When his wife sent applications to the president of Pakistan and Sindh chief minister, she was called by SPO, Sikandar Bhatti, and threatened with dire consequences.

“I am an old man but I will fight a legal battle against police irrespective of consequences in the larger interest of justice,” Agha Mehboob said.

He expressed no confidence in the Hyderabad police and appealed to the president of Pakistan and chief minister to order a judicial inquiry and appoint a conscientious officer belonging to Karachi to investigate the case.
