ISLAMABAD, Sept 4: The Bhandara Foundation has accused some doctors of the Shifa International Hospital of negligence in the treatment of former member of the National Assembly, M. P. Bhandara, who died in June of injuries suffered in a traffic accident in China.

The foundation, in a statement, sought an unconditional apology from the hospital and action against the “negligent consultant surgeon”.

The statement said that it was sad to think that Mr Bhandara’s life could have been saved had he been provided better care.

The foundation said it had decided to raise the issue to draw the attention of the health ministry towards the conduct of doctors and others at public and private hospitals.

Mr Bhandara died at the Shifa International Hospital on June 15 after succumbing to injuries he suffered in a car accident in China in April.

The former MNA and minister also remained under treatment in a hospital in Urumchi and the Combined Military Hospital, Rawalpindi.

A representative of the Shifa International Hospital, responding to the allegations, said that by the time Mr Bhandara was shifted to the hospital, he had developed multiple problems.

According to the representative, Mr Bhandara was provided the best possible care and the consultant consulted different specialists as the need arose. When the consultant went on leave he handed over the case to another competent consultant.
