LAYYAH, Sept 3: Six members of a family, including four children, have been hospitalised owing to what doctors diagnose gastroenteritis. Another member of the family died of the disease late on Tuesday.

Reports said seven members of the family of Ubaidur Rehman, residents of Ward No 10 (Chowk Azam city), came to the rural health centre on Tuesday night with complaint of stomach pain. The RHC doctors provided them first-aid and referred the patients to the DHQ hospital.

Four children being treated in the children ward of the hospital are: five-year-old Ayesha, Sajida, 4, Abdul Sami, 2, and one-month-old Safeeur Rehman.

Ubaid’s younger brother Saifur Rehman and sister Khadija Bibi also are hospitalised owing to gastroenteritis. Six-year-old Zainab died at the RHC.

DHQ hospital Medical Superintendent Dr Ghulam Mustafa said all the patients were being provided free medicine and were stable.

A team of health department also visited Ubaid’s house and collected water samples from the water pump.

After medical examination, the Layyah police registered a case against the culprit under section 376 of PPC.
