LARKANA, Sept 3: Theft of water gates installed on Pariyal Shakh over two weeks ago led to overflow of water from its feeding canal, Faqeer Wah, on Wednesday, flooding the Bilawal Jatoi village near Larkana-Naudero by-pass.

The flood also caused four houses in the village to cave in.

The villagers said that they had informed the district coordination officer of Larkana on Aug 21 about theft of two gates installed on Pariyal Shakh, which fed Faqeer Wah as they feared it would lead to spill over.

The DCO asked the irrigation engineer concerned to take urgent measures to stem the danger but the official did not pay any heed, sources said.

The water overtopped the banks and submerged the village and 40 acres of standing paddy crop on Wednesday.
