KARACHI, Sept 2: Sindh Minister for Fisheries Zahid Ali Bhurgari on Tuesday held a meeting regarding the implementation of ‘one window operation’ to facilitate the fishermen community operating from the Karachi Fish Harbour.

The meeting was held as a follow-up to the decision taken in the meeting held at Islamabad recently under the chairmanship of the federal minister for food and agriculture along with the Sindh minister for fisheries and the heads of various agencies.

The meeting was attended by the secretary livestock and fisheries department, representatives of the Pakistan Coast Guard, Pakistan Customs, Maritime Security Agency, Karachi Port Trust, Fishermen Cooperative Society and various fishermen organisations.

The representatives of the fishermen community expressed their satisfaction over the government’s decision to initiate one window operation to facilitate them at the mouth of Manora channel. This system was formally opened on Sept 1, 2008.

It was decided that now, the boats operating from the Karachi Fish Harbour will be issued P.C. for one month instead of five to 20 days. All agencies dealing with clearance of fishing boats, especially the Maritime Security Agency, assured that no boat will be returned due to any minor deficiency, subject to the condition that the boat will comply with the same in the next trip.—APP
