SHEIKHUPURA, Aug 31: Eleven children sustained critical burn injuries on Sunday when raw material of fireworks concealed in a heap of garbage in Islampur locality of Sharaqpur tehsil exploded on Sunday.

Reports said Ali Hamza, Ali Raza, Muna, Tayyiba, Muhammad Shafique, Fatima, Nasreen, Altaf, Muhammad Ijaz and others were playing beside a heap of garbage. In the meanwhile an unidentified man set the garbage on fire. As a result, the hidden fireworks material exploded, causing injuries to 11 children. The injured were removed to hospital.

It was learnt that Muhammad Shafique was running a fireworks shop in Islampur and had dumped the raw material there. The police are looking into the matter.
