KARACHI, Aug 31: Sindh Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs Mohammad Ayaz Soomro has announced a Rs30 million grant for the Sindh Bar Council (SBC) to make it more effective.

He made the announcement during a meeting of SBC chaired by its Vice-Chairman Zafar Ali Ansari in the bar’s office at the Sindh High Court, a handout issued here on Sunday said. Mr Soomro said that the council had become a financially weak organisation due to neglect on the part of successive governments over the past decade. He stated that SBC members would be given arms licences to enable them to keep weapons for self-defence.

The law minister pledged construction of “Benazir Bhutto residential colonies” for the legal fraternity.
