RAWALPINDI, Aug 30: A six-year-old boy and his eight-year-old sister drowned in a nullah in Dhoke Charaghdeen on Friday, police said.

Bodies of the two siblings were found floating in the water shortly after the children left their uncle’s house where they along with their parents had recently come from Sialkot.

Hamza and his sister Javeria were going to a nearby shop to buy sweets when the boy started walking on a pipeline which was passing over the nullah.

The little boy could not keep his balance and fell into the water.

On seeing her brother drowning, Javeria tried to rescue Hamza and went into the water but she also vanished, eyewitnesses said.

Shortly after the incident came to light, a large number of locals gathered at the scene, fished out the two children and took them to the District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital where the doctors pronounced them dead.

The mother of the deceased fainted when she came to know that she had lost her children.

“The deaths by drowning were a tragic accident,” said Sub-Inspector Ghulam Shabir, who was probing into the incident.

Neither any public representative nor the Rescue 1122 staff visited the site of the accident.

Robberies: Robbers and thieves struck at 11 places in the district on Thursday and took away cash, gold ornaments and eight vehicles, police said.

Adil Mehmood told the New Town police that he and his wife was going home when two motorcycle riders intercepted them and snatched Rs79,000 and two gold bangles his wife was wearing.

Mohammad Mubarik was shot and injured during an attempted robbery in Murree. He was on his way home when three gunmen forced him to give up cash and valuables, and opened fire when he put up resistance.

Farhat Ali lost Rs7,000, six gold rings, 12 gold bangles and costly wrist watches when burglars broke into his house in the Airport police area.

Meanwhile, Naeem Akhtar’s was stolen from New Town, Mohammad Akbar’s pickup from Sadiqabad, Amjad Shamim’s car and Wajid Mehmood’s motorcycle from Banni, Mohammad Afzal’s car from Westridge, Usman Haider’s car from outside the traffic office on Peshawar Road, Aqeel Ahmed Khan’s from the Airport police area and Mohammad Abbas’ car from Wah Cantonment.
