HYDERABAD, Aug 30: The Jeay Sindh Qaumi Mahaz (JSQM) on Saturday demanded removal of the vice-chancellor of Sindh Agriculture University and condemned police action against the university employees a day ago on the campus.
The party activists had observed token hunger strike outside the press club, in protest against the policies of the VC.
JSQM chairman Basheer Khan Qureshi said in a statement that the VC had crossed all limits. He could not save his post by using police and Rangers against university employees, he warned.
He said that the VC would have to be answerable to people for his excesses and his party would now launch a fully fledged movement against him.
OFFICIALS BOOKED: DCO Ali Ahmed Lund, who is also chairman of anti-corruption committee, booked 46 officials and ordered closure of cases of 30 employees.
Presiding over a meeting the committee at Shahbaz Hall, he directed the committee to prosecute 18 delinquent officials, including three officials from Sindh police, one each from irrigation, settlement survey, registration, excise and health departments and two each from agriculture, education and local government departments.
Similarly, the DCO decided to register cases against six officials found involved in malpractices, one each of Sindh police, Auqaf, irrigation, excise, revenue and education departments and ordered departmental action against 22 delinquent officials, four of Sindh police, two each from irrigation, revenue, forest and local government departments, one each of agriculture, excise, health, cooperative society, community development, works and services and HDA and three officials from education department.
FARE FIXED: The DCO has fixed transport fares for different routes within and outside the city and warned the transporters to refrain from overcharging and violating the official rate of fare.
Presiding over a meeting of Regional Transport Authority at his office, he said that the meeting had allowed the transporters to charge Rs70 per passenger from Hyderabad to Matiari, Rs42 for Hala, Rs88 for Nawabshah, Rs126 for Moro, Rs25 for Tando Mohammad Khan, Rs78 for Badin, Rs12 for Husri, Rs112 for Naukot via Matli, Rs75 for Digri, Rs109 for Sehwan, Rs144 for Dadu, Rs87 for Sanghar and Rs41 from Hyderabad to Tando Adam.
Similarly, transporters were allowed to charge Rs12 from Hirabad to LMC Jamshoro, Rs9 from Bhittai Nagar to LMC Jamshoro and Rs13 from Hyderabad to Tandojam.
The DCO directed the transporters to display fare list at each bus-stand and advised them not to argue, scuffle or exchange unpleasant words with passengers over fare.
