RAWALPINDI, Aug 28: An inquiry was launched after it was found that the ‘new’ tyres of police vehicles, which had recently been replaced, were in fact old ones, Dawn has learnt.

The inquiry officer said he was treating the matter seriously and was examining all facts to fix responsibility because the issue posed serious threat to the lives of policemen using the vehicles.

The issue came to light after one of the station house officers (SHOs) of Rawalpindi police complained to his seniors that the official vehicle he had been using had poor quality tyres as they got punctured frequently.

Later it emerged that the tyres which had recently been replaced were indeed of poor quality whereas the invoice presented to the authorities concerned quoted a much higher price.

When the senior superintendent of police Yasin Farooq, was contacted, he confirmed that he had launched an inquiry into the issue and served a show-cause notice on the motor transport officer, Police Lines.
