A call makes Wapda men panicky!

Published August 28, 2008

KASUR, Aug 27: Officials of Wapda must have been through a nightmarish experience on Wednesday when they had to take to the heels after receiving an anonymous call that a mob was heading towards it to damage installations.

More than 10-hour loadshedding has become a routine in Kasur and the people are ready to find an answer to the nerve-racking ordeal.

Information gleaned by this correspondent revealed that someone rang up at the Wapda office on Abdul Qadir Road, claiming that hundreds of weapon- and club-toting people were fast approaching the office.

Panicked, the officials locked their offices and main gates, and fled. A police team remained outside the Lesco office for hours thereafter under the supervision of the DSP city and the B-division SHO.

A group of students, shopkeepers and others, led by Rasheed Ahmed, demonstrated on Ferozepur Road and lambasted the Lesco authorities. The Mustafabad police SHO reached the spot and made them disperse.

In another incident, Lesco officials at the Khudian Town’s main office were scared away by a call claiming a looming outburst of resentment by a mob.

This time, many protesters did reach the office to voice concern over loadshedding and billing discrepancies, but a police team kept constant vigil to avert any untoward situation. —Correspondent
