PARACHINAR, Aug 26: One of the warring tribes in the Kurram Agency announced a unilateral ceasefire on Tuesday at the request of a jirga negotiating peace in the region.

Addressing a press conference at the Governor’s House in Parachinar, Syed Hussain Ali Shah Al-Hussaini, chief of the jirga of elders from Orakzai and Hangu, said the Toori tribe would observe the truce till the 10th of Shawwal so that the region received adequate food supply during Ramazan.

He expressed the hope that the Bangash tribe would reciprocate the gesture.

He said the Toori tribe had extended full support to the peace efforts being made by the jirga.

Mr Hussaini demanded immediate action against foreign elements which, he said, were creating unrest in the region.
