LAHORE, Aug 25: A constable allegedly shot himself to death for some unknown reason at a public toilet in Barkat Market here on Monday.

Haq Nawaz, 44, posted at the Garden Town police station some four months back, had been living along with his wife and six children in the Shahdara area for the last 15 years.

Garden Town SHO Muhammad Afzal said the constable left the police station in the morning along with his fellows for routine duty at Barkat Market. Few minutes before finishing his duty, Nawaz asked his fellows that he was going to a public toilet.

The SHO said the Nawaz entered the toilet along with his official rifle and later the toilet attendant heard a gunshot fire.

On raising an alarm, his other colleagues rushed to the spot and recovered Nawaz as dead with a bullet wound in histemple.

The SHO said he suspected that the constable, who appeared to be disturbed for the last two days, had committed suicide. The deceased constable even did not take his lunch, he said.

The victim, who belonged to Toba Tek Singh, had been living in Lahore and had completed 20 years of service in the police department.

A youth allegedly took his life by jumping before a moving train at the 7-Up railway crossing on Monday.

Police said the victim was identified as Majid Durrani of Akram Park, Gulberg.
