Informed sources said that officials of the ministries of water and power and finance remained busy in working out a uniform rate for all consumers because of a massive increase in tariff allowed by Nepra on the basis of increase in fuel prices and financial and system losses being faced by distribution companies. These sources said the prime minister had allowed the line ministries to pass on the full impact of tariff increase to consumers because of unprecedented financial crunch faced by power companies. The new rates are expected to be notified by the government next month and would become effective for the electricity bills of current month.
