PESHAWAR, Aug 19: A case of polio has been found in Upper Dir.

According to the World Health Organisation, a 16-month-old boy tested positive for poliomyelitis. The boy had received only two doses of the oral polio vaccine during supplementary immunisation campaigns.

This is the second polio case detected in the district in one week. Earlier, a child in Mardan tested positive for the deadly virus.

With the latest detection, the number of polio cases in the NWFP has risen to 12 this year.

Meanwhile, elders of the Bazidkhel union council decided at a meeting to support the government’s anti-polio campaign that was launched on Tuesday. The union council has reported two polio cases this year.
