Tajik boxer disqualified for biting

BEIJING, Aug 19: Tajikistan’s Dzhakhon Kurbanov was disqualified for biting Kazakh Yerkebulan Shynaliyev in their light-heavyweight quarter-final bout at the Olympic boxing competition on Tuesday.

Kurbanov had been regarded as one of the favourites for the title after ousting world champion Abbos Atoev of Uzbekistan in his first bout.

He was trailing Shynaliyev 12-6 when he bit him on the shoulder and was disqualified with 17 seconds left in the third round.—Reuters
