KARACHI, Aug 17: The University of Karachi has announced that it would not observe Monday as closed holiday on account of Shab-i-Bara’at. Academic activities on the campus and in its affiliated colleges will continue as usual on Monday, a KU official said on Sunday.
The Sindh government has, however, announced that all schools and colleges under the control of the provincial and local governments will remain closed on Monday on account of Shab-i-Bara’at.
Programmes cancelled
The Students’ Advisory Committee of the University of Karachi has announced cancellation of the remaining programmes of the ongoing “Students’ Week” for security reasons.
Normal academic activities will resume on Monday, according to a statement issued by the committee on Sunday.
The statement said that the committee held an emergency meeting on Sunday and noted that student organizations were not cooperating with the administration.
The advisory council maintained that the Karachi University always wanted to provide students opportunities of extra-curricular activities but in view of the non-cooperation and irresponsible attitude of student organizations, the remaining programmes of the Students Week were being been cancelled by the KU administration.
