KARACHI: Rakhsha Bandhan celebrated

Published August 17, 2008

KARACHI, Aug 16: Members of the Hindu community across the city, like their counterparts around the world, celebrated their annual festival of “Rakhsha Bandhan” on Saturday.

The festival reaffirms the sister-brother bond and, as a ritual, sisters tie a colourful band, rakhi, made up of threads, on the wrists of their brothers as a mark of respect and love. In turn, brothers reaffirm their pledge to protect their sisters after wearing the band.

Married sisters visit their brothers to tie the rakhi. Prayers are offered at temples as part of the religious festival.
