LARKANA, Aug 15: Residents of different localities held demonstrations on Friday against power outage. A large number of people hailing from Waleed village and Shaikh Zayed Colony under the leadership of Asif Shah and Ahsan Shah took out a procession and blocked the Indus Highway at Gharwah.
They burnt tyres and alleged that since Thursday night their areas were without power and Hesco authorities unavailable to restore power supply.
Residents of Khudabad locality protested at Kamal Ata Turk Memorial Tower against prolonged power breakdown. Led by Zubir Chandio, Moula Bakhsh Veesar, protesters blocked the road, burnt tyres and chanted slogans against inefficient Hesco officials and turning a deaf ear to complaints.
Residents of Rehmatpur Mohalla also demonstrated near the Government Degree College and burnt tyres blocking the road.
They said Hesco people were not paying heed to their problem as power supply continuously remained absent affecting vast area in this suffocating and humid weather.
Dwellers of Lahori Mohalla and Empire Road also took to streets against the power breakdown.
Larkana city experienced the worst power crisis as hardly any feeder could get continuous supply for more than half an hour. Almost, after every half-an-hour or less, supply would just trip off along with fluctuation and low voltage. This hide-and-seek of the power damaged innumerable domestic appliances. Phones at the two grid stations remained unattended despite repeated attempts.
A line superintendent of Jinnahbagh sub-division when reached by cell said that he was unaware of such an intermittent power supply.
Superintendent Engineer City-II Niaz Baloch when contacted asked the reporter to get information from the concerned gird station’s engineer. He however said that the situation would be corrected soon, as according to him a fault was developed in Lodran Gird station.
The gird station’s engineer when contacted said that the fault had just been rectified in Lodran Gird station and power supply restored. Soon after this claim, power again went off in Lahori mohalla.
