KARACHI, Aug 15: Police on Friday seized a cache of arms from a locality in Patel Para and detained two suspects.

Speaking at a press conference, DIG Investigation Ghulam Qadir Thebo claimed that the police had foiled an attempt to smuggle arms and ammunition into the city which could have been used in terrorist activities.

Giving the details of the operation, he said that acting on a tip-off a team of the Special Investigation Unit (SIU) followed a passenger bus that had arrived in the city from Mansehra.

The bus ‘Murshid Lal Coach’ moving through Sohrab Goth and then Taj Complex finally stopped at Patel Para. The vehicle was under continuous surveillance since its entry to the city, he said.

Subsequently, the police team conducted a raid on the office of Murshid Lal Coach Service in Patel Para and spotted two suitcases, which were being protected by the employees of the transport service.

SP (SIU) Gul Hameed Samoo said that when the police team tried to examine the suitcases, the employees put up resistance on which the law-enforcers grew suspicious, which finally led to the discovery of the arms cache.

Police have detained two employees of the coach service, Akhtar Zeb, and, Khawaja Mohammad, for investigation.
