KARACHI, May 6: Ziaullah Baig and Hamid Mohiuddin have been declared Pair of the Month having earned 460 points. The pair have performed extremely well in the last eight sessions of the team as well as pair events. The pair have won three team events, once finished fourth and three pair events out of four each in the month of May, says a press release of Karachi Bridge Association (KBA) issued Monday.

In the team event, playing for Candyland they excelled over other seventeen opponents and returned unbeaten with a score of 108 Victory Points. They defeated Sprinters 25-0. Shahab 24-6, Akbar 18-12, Attackers 17-13 and finally Friends 24-6.

Besides the Hamid Zia pair, Candyland fielded Sarfaraz Khan-Amin Hakim and Khalid Hasan Askari. Attackers occupied second berth with a score of 91 Victory Points winning four matches from Abdies 21-9, Friends 18-12, Tehsin 18-12 and Jamal 21-9. Zeenat Azwer, Afzal Shaikh, Azwerul Haq and Rafiq Hingora played for Attackers. Chandna scored 87 Victory Points for the third berth winning four matches.

In the pairs event, 44 pairs contested from two houses. From the senior string, Mohsin Chandna-Tehsin Gheewala topped with a score of 64.88 percent followed by Ghufran Ashraf-Khalid Mohiuddin 61.61 and Asghar Naqvi-Hasan Sajjad 57.74 percent. In the other house, Wazir Durrani-Shahab Saeed made their presence felt winning the top berth with a handsome score of 66.03 percent. Their team mates, M.G Siddiqui-S.P. Jamal finished second with 60.34 and Ghaffar Qureshi-Sher Ali Mondrawala scored 55.70 percent for the third berth.

Meanwhile Karachi Club Open Duplicate Bridge Tournament will start from Monday. There will be two rounds on the inaugural day and next two rounds on Saturday and remaining three on Sunday evening.—PPI
