KARACHI, Aug 13: Habib Bank Limited (HBL) beat Army 2-0 and Karachi Port Trust (KPT) and Wapda drew 1-1 in the two Pakistan Premier Football League (PPFL) matches played on Wednesday evening.
The first match between HBL and Army at the Peoples Sports Complex saw HBL cause a major upset by giving Army a taste of their first defeat in the tournament through the bankers’ striker Zakir Lashari.
The winners’ first goal, after a barren first half, came in the 58th minute when Zakir converted midfielder Khayal Mohammad’s through pass. Opportunity for the second goal scored by Mohammad Ishtiaq in the 66th minute was also created by Zakir.
The other match at the CDGK stadium between KPT and Wapda saw Wapda playing with 10 players only for a greater part of the match when full-back Jamshed Anwar was shown the red card by FIFA referee Shafaat Habib in the 35th minute after being flashed the yellow one in the 28th.
But the first goal had already been scored by KPT in the 9th minute through their striker Shahid Salim with a complete Wapda outfit in opposition. This was followed by Wapda’s reply in the 18th minute through their stopper Dilshad Ali. The 1-1 score at halftime remained unchanged till the final whistle.
Thursday’s fixtures: Pakistan International Airlines v Pakistan Television at Korangi Baloch Stadium at 5.30pm. Karachi Electric Supply Corporation v Navy at Peoples Sports Complex at 5.30pm.
