SAHIWAL, Aug 13: The Kassowal police, Chichawatni, on Wednesday claimed to have solved the murder mystery of two family members.

Reports said heirs of Irshad, 40, of Chak No 101/ 2-L, who was killed in Saudi Arabia some two years back, had got Rs15 million as compensation under the qisas and diyat law.

This compensation money was distributed among deceased’s three younger brothers namely Arshad, Farooq and Mushtaq Fouji which became a bone of contention. Irshad’s widow Mussarat and a minor son also got their share. Youngest brother Fouji, in a bid to grab the share of his brother’s widow and son, contracted marriage with Mussarat Bibi.

His two elder brothers opposed the marriage because they knew that Fouji had a love affair with a girl and that he had an eye on the lion’s share of the widow.

In February, 2008, Fouji shot dead Mussarat and injured his one leg with a bullet to convince police that the incident was an outcome of resistance against the dacoits.

He reported the Chichawatni Sadar that the incident occurred when the couple was on way to their village on a motorcycle.

A murder case was registered against the two nominated accused Basir and Ali Ahmad Rahmat. But the police released both accused after investigation.

Fouji captured Mussarat’s share and was preparing to marry with his lover when he was murdered near his village on April 19, 2008.

His elder brother Arshad had a murder case registered against nine nominated persons, including Basir and Ali Ahmad.

Former Kassowal DSP Zahid Husain and sub-inspector Rai Ashraf Ali investigated the case and found no evidence against the nominated accused and freed them.

On some information, the police decided to include Farooq, the elder brother of Fouji, in the investigation.

During interrogation, Farooq confessed his crime, claiming that he took the extreme step because Fouji had killed Mussarat.

SI Rai Ashraf said arrested accused Farooq along with his two accomplices had murdered his brother to grab three shares of the qisas amount.

Chichawatni DSP Sadiq Chandio said police were trying to arrest the two other accused who had reportedly taken a refuge in Karachi.
