SUKKUR, May 6: Combined funeral prayers for seven children, who died on Sunday night’s roof collapse incident, was held here on Monday at Jamia Mosque.

The funeral was attended by a large number of locals, including Zila Nazim and Naib Nazim.

The number of casualties in the roof collapse was seven and not 10 as reported earlier. Eye-witnesses had told the newsmen immediately after the accident that 10 inmates had died in the roof collapse. Three of them were later recovered as injured from the debris.

The injured were discharged after first aid from the Civil Hospital, Sukkur, except for 16 whose condition is stated to be precarious.

Two critically injured have been shifted to Chandka Medical College, Larkana. A number of injured are also being nursed in private hospitals.

Those critically injured shifted to Chandka Hospital were Arshad and Saira.

Among the deceased were four children of Muneer Ahmed Jogi. Two children of Sarwar Jogi, brother of Muneer Jogi, were among the victims.

Four children of Muneer Ahmed, who died in the incident, are Tanveer, Danish, Rashid and Shahzeb. Mehreen and Anwer Ali were kids of Sarwar Jogi. The seventh victim was identified as Muhammad Haneef son of Muhammad Ikram.

The injured are: Asma, Nadia, Perveen, Nausheen, Asghari, Hamza, Jabbar, Sultana, Shahnaz, Zubaida, Naureen, Fozia, Arsalan and Zara.

The ill-fated building was an illegal structure, and there are several more such super structures in the area.

The District Government has announced a grant of Rs 50,000 for each of the deceased and Rs 10,000 for the injured. Zila Nazim Syed Nasir Hussain Shah has ordered to disburse the amount to the victims families within two days.

He has also asked the authorities to survey all such dilapidated structures, and issue notices to demolish them, accordingly.

He, however, made it clear that alternative arrangements would be provided to all such displaced persons.

Meanwhile, an emergent meeting of Taluka Municipal Council and the Zila Assembly was held here on Monday, which condoled the death of seven persons in the roof collapse incident.
