KARACHI, Aug 10: Pakistan’s top tennis player Aqeel Khan who is currently touring India survived a scare in one of the three matches to qualify for the main draw in the second ITF Challenger at Delhi’s R. K. Khanna Stadium on Sunday.

According to information reaching here, he thrashed Indian opponent Monat 6-1, 6-2 in the opening qualifier.

In the next, he overcame a stiff opposition from local player Divij Sharan in a three-set duel. After conceding the opener 4-6, he recovered to post 7-6, 7-5 victory.

Aqeel’s victim in the third qualifying round was another Indian Ashutosh Sindh who went down 4-6, 3-6.

The main round matches are due to commence from Tuesday.

Earlier, Aqeel had a poor start as he failed to qualify for the main draw of the first ITF Challenger at the same venue losing in the first qualifying match.
