LAHORE, Aug 10: Indian railway authorities have handed over the rake of Samjhota Express to their Pakistani counterparts as the international train is running according to new schedule between Atari and Lahore on Mondays and Thursdays only.

“The maintenance of the coaches and locomotive of Samjhota Express will now be the responsibility of the Pakistan railways (PR) till Dec 4 this year after which the international train will comprise Pakistani rake,” a PR official at its headquarters in Lahore told this reporter on Sunday.

The 401-up Samjhota

Express used to leave Atari on Mondays and Thursdays while the 402-down started its journey from Lahore on Tuesdays and Fridays. Now, the 402-down Samjhota leaves Lahore at 8am to reach

Wagah 8.35am, and departs from Wagah 11.30am to arrive at Atari 11:40am. The 401-up leaves Atari at 2pm, reaches Wagah at 2.10pm and starts its journey for Lahore at 4.10pm. The arrival time of the 401-up at the Lahore railway station is 4.45pm. But the train rarely follows the schedule, based upon Pakistan Standard Time, owing to security and customs clearance.
