SHIKARPUR, Aug 10: Two breaches, 15 and 20 feet wide, developed in Mirza Wah near Saleh Unnar and Manjhi Shar villages on Saturday.

The breaches were plugged by villagers after five hours of efforts. No irrigation official reached the place. Due to the breaches Saleh Unnar, Manjhi Shar, and Redhoo Shar villages were submerged and hundreds of acres of standing paddy crops and a fish pond were affected.

Household items and food stored by villagers were also damaged by the floodwater.

ARREST: A suspected dacoit, Ghulam Rasool Shar alias Haji Shar, was arrested after a police encounter in the forest area of Humayoon on Saturday.

Police claimed that Ghulam Rasool Shar was hiding in the forest with his accomplices.

A police party surrounded the area and after an exchange of gunfire, which lasted for two hours, police arrested him with a shotgun and two kilogrammes of charas. However, his accomplices managed to escape.

According to police, the arrested dacoit was wanted in scores of serious crimes, including the murder of SHO Mohammad Ali Malik of Dera Allah Yar of Balochistan.
