HYDERABAD, Aug 9: A large number of haris and workers held a “Hari Haqdar Rally” under the banner of Sindh Hari Porhiyat Council and Bhandar Hari Sangat to mark the Indigenous People’s World Day and the 28th death anniversary of Nazeer Abbasi here on Saturday.

The participants of the rally, waving sickles and red flags, marched from the Nazareth Girls’ College to the press club where they held a Hari Haqdar Conference.

Hari leaders Punhal Sario, Ramzan Memon, Nazeer Memon, Hameeda Ghanghro, wife of late Nazeer Abbasi, and Badar Soomro paid tributes to late Abbasi, who had laid down his life for the rights of the tillers of the land and the working class.

They pledged to continue struggle for the restoration of fundamental human rights and national independence. Inhuman atrocities had been committed by successive rulers against all the people who had struggled for the rights of the downtrodden, they said.

They said that unless the government made adequate amendments to tenancy act, introduced land reforms and established hari courts, the feudal system could not be dismantled.

They called upon rulers to honour their promises about providing Roti, Kapra aur Makan to people and give equal rights to all the nations. Robbery of the Indus River waters should be stopped and military operation in Balochistan should be halted, he said.

Hameeda Ghanghro, wife of late Nazeer Abbasi, said that she and her husband had to face jail in the course of their struggle for the cause.

Comrade Hussain Bux Thebo said that people had voted for landlords, Choudhris, Sardars and Khans again and again for the past 60 years.
