SWAT, Aug 7: Three members of a family were killed and two injured by gunmen in the Totano Bandai area of Kabal tehsil on Wednesday night, residents said.

They said that the attackers barged into the house of one Laibar during the night and opened fire on the inmates. Laibar, his son Omar and grandson Saifullah were killed on the spot, while his wife Zarbakhta and daughter-in-law Gul Jahan were injured. They were taken to the Saidu Sharif hospital, where they were stated to be in stable condition.

The Kabal police registered a case on the report of the injured women and started investigation. The motive behind the killing could not be known.

DEMONSTRATION: Residents of Nangolai area of Swat organised a demonstration and blocked the Mingora road to protest against mortar shelling by security forces on residential areas.

The protesters said that the mortars hit the residential areas and caused casualties and damage to their properties.

They also marched to the security forces’ checkpost in the area to apprise the authorities of the losses they suffered in the operation against militants in the area.
