SUKKUR, Aug 3: Doctor Naseema Aftab Shah has filed a petition in the Sukkur bench of the Sindh High Court against the proposed sale of Agha Badar-i-Alam Durrani Law College Sukkur to the ‘builder mafia’.

Dr Naseema, who is daughter of the founder principal of the law college, (late) Syed Mazhar Ali Shah, through her lawyer, Ghulam Mohammad Durrani, has filed the petition against Sindh governor; the vice-chancellor of Shah Abdul Latif University, Khairpur; the principal of Law College Sukkur, Abdul Sattar Chohan; and members of governing body, including principals of law colleges of Khairpur, Shikarpur, Naushahro Feroze, Ghotki and Larkana.

In her petition, she has stated that Agha Badar-i-Alam Durrani Law College was established in 1960 by her father and for this purpose a plot measuring 5100 square yards was leased to him for 99 years by the municipal committee of Sukkur with the approval of the then commissioner of Khairpur division and with the condition that the plot would only be used for the purpose of a law college and it would neither be sold or used for any other purpose.

She stated that her father, with support of some philanthropists raised funds to establish the law college which was formally inaugurated by Zulfikar Ali Bhutto.

She quoted the college principal, Abdul Sattar Chohan, saying that it was decided in a meeting of the board of governors to shift the college to some appropriate place and to sell this building to some builder.

She said her father and founder principal of the college was buried on the college premises.
