Zainul’s heroics in vain

Published August 3, 2008

KARACHI, Aug 2: Despite Zainul Abedin’s heroics, National Club went down gallantly 46-53 to Civil Club in the under-14 basketball tournament which resumed at the Arambagh floodlit court on Friday night.

Zainul contributed no less than 30 points, but his splendid display was not enough to prevent Civil Club reaching the final.

Azeem and Rafiq stole the limelight for winners who led 36-31 at half time. The former scored 18 while the latter contributed 17 including a three pointer. Bilal scored six.

Civil Club now meets Arambagh Club in the final scheduled to be played on Sunday at 9.00pm. Both teams occupied top two places at the end of the single league phase in the four-team competition.

The event was postponed due to rains in the city.
