BADIN, July 29: People braved another prolonged power breakdown on Monday. The city remained without power for 14/15 hours and residents passed sleepless night.
The breakdown occurred soon after Speaker National Assembly Dr Fehmida Mirza inaugurated the grid station and was addressing a press conference. The power went off with the first drop of rain at 7.30pm on Monday and could not be restored till 9.30am on Tuesday. It again went off after an hour.
It was believed that power supply was improving but soon after the Hesco officials were reprimanded by Dr Zulfiqar Mirza of illegal shutdown, things turned back to its former position - either by design or by default.
There were no officials to give reason for major breakdown, while Complaint Centre’s phone was also not being attended to.
The breakdown affected residential area, industrial units, installation and hospitals throughout the city. The water pumping station also could not resume work due to power outage.
People alleged the grid’s additional transmission would benefit second feeder which provides power to officers Agrovil Colony, Cantonment area and others.
However, public relations officer of Hesco, Mohammad Sadiq Kubar when contacted by phone said that there might have been some disturbance in the main supply line.
People had demanded an inquiry into the matter.
