LAHORE, July 27: A labourer died while five people, including four of a family, were injured in two roof collapse incidents here on Sunday.

In the first incident, an under-construction roof of a mosque collapsed in G-Market in Johar Town.

Rescue 1122 officials said some labourers were doing shuttering on the roof of Ibrahim Masjid under the supervision of a local notable Sheikh Muhammad Naeem, when it caved in.

Two labourers jumped from the roof while Sheikh Naeem and a labourer, Amanullah of Sahiwal, got buried under the debris.

Amanullah, 26, expired by the time debris was removed while Sheikh Naeem, 50, was taken to Jinnah Hospital in critical condition.

In the other incident, a child and three women sustained injuries when dilapidated roof of their house collapsed in Azam Chowk locality on Ferozepur Road.

Edhi officials said roof of a single room house of one Ameen Nawaz caved in, leaving four of his family members trapped.

Locals and the rescuers took Shaheen Bibi, 35, Maiwa Bibi, 25, Nusrat, 13, and a three-year-old child to Lahore General Hospital.

FIRE: A fire broke out in a show factory owned by a special magistrate, Zahid Ahmed Khan, in Hanif Park, Harbanspura, reducing manufactured shoes and materials worth hundreds of thousands of rupees to ashes.

The Edhi officials said the apparent cause of fire was stated to be short-circuiting.
