KHAIRPUR, July 26: More than 300 people took out a rally here on Saturday under the banner of Sindh Irrigation Muttahida Federation (SIMF), to press the government for the acceptance of their demands.

The federation president Mohammad Azam and vice-president Mir Hassan Leghari who led the rally demanded that the employment in irrigation department for lower staff posts including Beldars should be given to the sons of the deceased and retired employees of irrigation department.

If the appointments were made on political basis or political quota, it would be a great injustice to the children of the deceased and retired employees, they said.

Leghari said that the unemployment had reached such an extent that candidates with graduation and masters degrees had applied for lower staff post of Beldars, whereas about 2,300 had applied for only 70 vacant posts of Beldars in irrigation west division Khairpur.

The participants said that their demand was just because the families of the deceased and retired lower staff employees were living a miserable life. They should be provided jobs under son quota in irrigation department, they urged.

Later, the rally marched up to Jilani House, the residence of chief minister Sindh Syed Qaim Ali Shah and submitted their charter of demands.
