ISLAMABAD, May 5: War of liberation in Gilgit and Baltistan has proved that battles are not won by weapons, but by courage and fortitude of the people.

This was said by President Azad Jammu and Kashmir Maj-Gen (Rtd) Sardar Mohammad Anwar who was speaking at the launching ceremony of the book entitled “Shamsher Say Zanjeer Tak” by late Col Hassan Khan here on Sunday.

The function was attended by Air Marshal (Rtd) Mohammad Asghar Khan, Jamal Syed Mian, Brig Mohammad Zakir, Prof Maqsood Jaffery, Wajahat Hussain and Dr Sharif.

Air Marshal (Rtd) Mohammad Asghar Khan said revolution in Gilgit was an uphill task in the presence of Dogra garrison at various stations, but it was a miracle that at the very first strike the Hindus and Sikhs lost the largest garrison of Bunji.

But, from Skardu and onward to Kargil, he said, our forces encountered stiff resistance from regular forces of the Hindu Army.

Gen (Rtd) Jamal Syed Mian paid tributes to the people of Gilgit and Baltistan who liberated the country after raging a battle with the Dogra Indian forces.

Brig Zakir said whatever was done by his predecessors was in a state of resourcelessness, but now the present generation was able to give a crushing blow to the enemy.
