SIALKOT, May 5: A minor girl was killed and two villagers received serious injuries late Saturday night in shelling by Indian armymen on villages in the Sialkot working boundary’s Shakargarh-Narowal sectors.

Sources said Lubna Shehzadi (8) in Dandot village, Muhammad Manzoor (65) in Abiyaal Dogar village and Muhammad Ali (35) in Sukmaal village were asleep in courtyards of their houses when some mortar shells hit them. The minor girl died instantly while the latter two sustained serious wounds. They were admitted to the Sialkot CMH in critical condition. The shelling also badly damaged eight houses.

Meanwhile, more standing wheat crop on about 250 acres worth Rs7 million was gutted in the shelling. Chaudhry Hayyat, Chaudhry Iqbal, Shahid Mehmood, Ramzan, Siddique, Nisar Ahmad, Muhammad Zafar, Allah Ditta, Khalid and Mukhtar Ahmad were the affected farmers.

Growers urged upon the UN to look into the matter because the wheat crop was their only source to stay alive. They also stressed upon the government to announce a relief package for the farmers affected by the Indian shelling.

Sources said the Chenab Rangers on Sunday foiled two more major Indian attempts to fence in the working boundary’s Jammu and Shakargarh-Narowal sectors. Two Indian armymen were killed and an ammunition depot was also destroyed by Chenab Rangers.

The Indian security forces on Sunday continued shelling on villages in the working boundary’s Chhumb Joriyaan (Gujrat), Bajwat, Bajragarhi, Charwa, Harpal, Chaprar, Sucheetgarh, Jammu, Akhnoor, Saamba, Zafarwal and Shakargarh-Narowal sectors. The sowing and harvesting of seasonal crops were badly disrupted as a result.

16 GOATS KILLED: At least 16 goats of two villagers, Maskeeq Ali and Muhammad Ishaq, were killed on Sunday by four stray dogs in Sarran village (Begowala), Daska tehsil.

Stray dogs roam about in large numbers in Sialkot and Narowal districts. The local governments have taken no steps in curbing the menace of stray dogs. Besides, no anti-rabies vaccine is available in government hospitals, BHUs and RHUs.
