RAWALPINDI, July 24: The Government Contractors Welfare Association’s Rawalpindi chapter has asked Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif to order an inquiry into alleged embezzlement in awarding of contracts by the building department.

The association, in a statement issued here on Thursday, said the building department was awarding contracts to favourite contractors without floating any tenders, which had resulted in slow pace of work on development projects and corruption in the department.

The association flatly held the building department’s executive engineer, Latif Bhatti, for awarding contracts to a select group of contractors for the construction of Judicial Complex, Police College Sihala and several other under-construction mega projects.
