ISLAMABAD, July 22: The Pakistan Squash Federation (PSF) would welcome suggestions from squash legends Jahangir Khan and Jansher Khan regarding promotion of the game in the country.

This was stated by Senior Vice-President PSF Asim Suleman while addressing the media on Tuesday.

Dispelling the impression that there was a controversy against the Federation, Suleman remarked: “Jahangir Khan is my hero, and is a role model for young emerging squash players.”

He pointed out that if either of them (Jahangir or Jansher) had any constructive suggestions they should make it to the federation so it could take action to implement them.

To a question about the participation of top ranked national player Aamir Atlas Khan in the World Junior Squash Championship, not being a ranking tournament, Suleman said: “It is a golden opportunity for Pakistan to win the world junior title.”

Suleman expressed the hope that Pakistan would be in a position to lift the title after a lapse of 24 years, adding that Aamir has the potential to revive the name of Pakistan in the squash world by clinching this title.

About the recent incident which occurred in Malaysia where Shahid Zaman faced visa problems during the tournament he said: “The PSF is not responsible for the personal action of the players.”

However, Suleman added: “Shahid never contacted us and never informed us that he would be participating in the Malaysian tournament but when we came to know about it through the media PSF solved the matter in a short time.”

Regarding the game development strategy of the PSF he said they had short term strategy and they would emphasise the improvement of the game for the existing lot of players.

He said that there are four Pakistanis among the world’s top 40 players.

“We have many resources and can sponsor the top four players and are fully facilitating these players by sponsoring them in international tournaments,” Suleman concluded.
