Two drown in Shigar River

SKARDU, July 22: Two persons drowned in Shigar river while collecting firewood, sources told Dawn here on Tuesday.

Nawaz and Abdul Salam were collecting firewood at the river bank when one of them was swept way by the rushing waves of the river. His friend in a bid to rescue him also slipped in the river. The body of Mohammad Nawaz was recovered.

ENTRY BANNED: Sub divisional magistrate Skardu banned entry of Ulema and suspected persons in the jurisdiction of Skardu sub division, besides imposing section 144 to maintain law and order situation during the Asad Ashura in the city which would be continued till July 31.

Display of arms is also banned. However, police, paramilitary forces and those who have written permission from the sub divisional magistrate are exempted from this ban.

In addition to this, printing, publishing and distribution of objectionable pamphlets, placards, and posters, playing of music and pillion riding on have been banned till July 31.
