FAISALABAD, July 21: The National Textile University resumed its educational activities on Monday, 40 days after its closure after a protest drive by students.

A three-member committee headed by the Textile Ministry secretary, talked to students on July 17 and asked them to return to their classes.

The committee assured them their demands would be accepted and the university would be accredited with the Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC).

The university witnessed a thin attendance on Monday as most of the students were not aware about the restoration of the academic activities.

Educational activities were suspended 40 days ago after students went on strike demanding the university be affiliated with the PEC, the vice-chancellor sacked and Aptma removed from the university’s affairs.

Sources said Vice-Chancellor Masood Ahmed Biabani and Dean Dr Zubair were sent on leave by the authority and Dr Tanvir replaced the latter.

An acting vice chancellor would also be appointed soon, sources added.

Students said they wanted to resume their studies instead of protesting against anyone.
